The Backyardigans: Operation Elephant Drop

Best Deal The Backyardigans: Operation Elephant Drop

Here is an episode list for this DVD – I couldn’t seem to find one on Amazon, so if anyone else is wondering what’s on Operation Elephant Drop while it’s still on pre-order, here it is:

Elephant on the Run
Park Ranger Tasha has a very important job for delivery agents Tyrone and Pablo (who never fail to deliver a package) — to get an endangered Indian elephant safely to the Wildlife Sanctuary and to avoid the bad guys (Uniqua and her henchman Austin). Really cute episode with great new songs as the two teams race across the savannah to see who will end up with the elephant.

The Magic Skateboard
Tyrone really wants to be a great skateboarder. He may not know all the tricks yet, but once he finds the magic skateboard, he’s going to compete in the Show-Off Showdown.

The Flipper
Uniqua, Tasha and Pablo are the Meteor Watch Squad. But when meteor-obsessed Pablo accidentally spills toxic space goo all over himself, he becomes the super strong, super excitable Flipper!

Super Team Awesome
Tyrone is a tour guide for the world’s only lava geyser, Old Gushie. When a loose boulder in the cavern threatens to cause a geothermal disaster, Tyrone calls for help. Not one, but three superheroes come to save the day!

It’s nice to see the Backyardigans DVDs back on track after the last one was released short an episode and with a 30-minute tribute to the Fresh Beat Band.

Good price – Melanie Toups – Louisiana, USA
Good price and fast shipping. Kids love backyardigans. Age 2 and 4 and sometimes my 8 yr old will even watch it.

Endless “hours” of joy! – Halewis – Brooklyn, NY
As soon as the music starts, the dancing begins. My grand children join their little sister in singing and dancing to every song. The older children lose interest after the same dvd is played for 8 hours “straight.” I MUST BUY MORE.

Here is my top pros and cons:

Pros
1. Very quick to set up and install.
2. Easy understandable directions
3. Extremely strong backing–these will not come off without significant effort
4. I have custom cherry cabinets with thick doors-no problem for the magnetic key.
5. No screws. But there if you need them.
6. Sturdy, solid product

Cons
1. I found (after numerous trial and error) that they do not work with narrow cabinet doors. I have several long and skinny doors that I had to remove the locks on because they did not match up after the install. I believe the angle of the narrow door prevents the latches from lining up straight and connecting.
2. A few of the locks (out of 20 used) did not work properly. It appears the magnetic latch on a few do not sit flush when shut and this prevents the latch from hooking resulting in a non-locked door.
3. No extra sticky back tabs when I have to remove the latches –I have tried 3M sticky squares cut to size and they do not adhere at all. I then used screws and they worked fine. You cannot reattach with the original sticky tabs once they have been removed.
4. Magnetic keys are a bit pricey. I have 3 and keep them close to the most used drawers.

Overall performance is excellent after I figured out I could not use them on my narrow doors and found 2 that did not latch correctly. They are great when you do not want to use screws. We use a combo of the cheapo plastic press latches that have to be screwed in and these. I have put the cheapo press ones on drawers we access all the time–like our silverware–because it is less hassle than to get the key, open the door, put key back multiple times in a day.
I would recommend this product but not for all instances.

These didn’t work for me… – E. H –
I was not a fan of these at all. First of all there is a huge chance I’m going to lose the key at some point. Also, for many of my cupboards they would not fit together properly to lock (I followed the instructions well).

Iffy – D. Darling – American Forces Europe
Couldn’t get the darn thing to work. What really sucks is that once you attach it, you can’t move it around so you get only one try at the thing. I think I’ll leave it up to the proffessionals from now on.

Why Choose Power Cooking? It Make Meals Faster and Save Time!

4286304779 4e5e497132 Why Choose Power Cooking? It Make Meals Faster and Save Time!
Image : http://www.flickr.com

Power Cooking makes meals faster and saves time! Cooking meals “ten at a time” saves both time and money. You’ll have way fewer trips to the grocery store. Even a “quick trip” is very time consuming, plus you’ll have fewer impulse purchases, which saves you money and did I mention how much money you’ll be saving on gas? Many of the time-consuming tasks can be combined on one day, making your dinner much easier and quicker for the next two weeks. Saving money by making dinner easier so you eat out (or pick up take-out) less often is a really BIG savings. Plus, as I mentioned in previous articles, dinner at home, around your own table, really makes a difference in family life. Many studies show that numerous childhood “problems” are experienced at a significantly lower rate-based on how many meals the family eats together AT HOME. Part of my company’s mission is bringing families together around the table. Part of my mission is making that experience “painless” by providing the tools to make it easier!

Helpful hints for preparing:

Clean out your freezer and refrigerator the day before shopping and cooking.
Have a family meeting and plan your two week menu. (You may want to come up with 2 or 3 two-week menus, and than simply put them back-to-back to reduce boredom and repetition. Get your kids involved, have them create a menu for the week, with adult guidance of course to maintain nutrition in those meals. Once you have done the menu plan and the master shopping list, it’s a breeze to repeat it!) Choose dishes that freeze well.
Keep in mind that you won’t have to cook all the items on your menu ahead of time, only the food that needs a lot of preparation (or can be done easily in bulk) will be completed and frozen. For instance, if you are planning to grill hamburgers, you only need to shape the burgers and freeze them.
Use containers designed for freezing rather than cellophane, waxed paper or thin aluminum foil. Using the proper containers will keep your food fresh and help protect against freezer burn. Squeeze as much air as possible out of the container before freezing.
When making your shopping list, check your supply of freezer containers and/or freezer bags. Add them to your list if you are low. (You don’t want to do your shopping and come home and run out in the middle of preparing your meals).
It’s easier when making your shopping list to use pencil by going through each recipe that you select and listing the ingredients (even if you already have them). This is going to be your Master List. You will need to alter the quantity of many items on your list several times as you go through each of the recipes. (It’s easier to erase than scratch off and mark your list so you can’t read it, thus the reason for the pencil).
Make photocopies of your final two lists to use for future menus.
After your list is completed, go through your freezer and cupboards, mark off any items you already have so you know you don’t need to purchase them.
Before shopping, clear off your counter tops, you will need the space!

Facing Your Clogged Garbage Disposal

It does its job with everyday efficiency. You hardly notice its presence. If it is not working properly, it will grab your full attention. Turn it on and a large mess results. Both sides of the kitchen sink may be full of food and water. You have a clogged garbage disposal unit to deal with. Here are some ways that may help alleviate your problem.

Home remedy

Be careful about using any harsh drain chemicals in your disposer. It may damage the unit. It is also unsafe as it may splash on your skin. There is a simple home remedy that might work. It involves baking soda and white vinegar. Take about half a box of soda and pour it into both sink drains. Do the same thing with the vinegar. Let it stand for several minutes. It may take up to half an hour.

Try flushing some hot water down your drains. Did this fix the stopped up drain pipe? If not, you will have to dismantle the drain trap under the sink. Traps are a vital part of your drains. They trap water within them. This prevents bad odors from making their way to your home interior. Drains can contain many offensive smells.

Remove the drain trap. It may come apart easily. However, you need to disconnect it from the disposer. This may involve removing mounting bolts. After it is apart you can clean it. This often solves the situation. If not, you have to trace the trouble through the drain system. This may or may not be a simple task.

You may be able to fit a drain auger in your pipe and clear the drain. Perhaps you do not have any drain tools. You may not be sure how to work on your own plumbing situations. Consider calling professional help. A plumber will come out and unstop your drain with minimal effort, usually. This depends on your situation. It may not be too expensive either. At least you will know why the drain is not working.

Conclusion

A clogged garbage disposal unit will usually warrant your immediate attention. This is not a time to panic. Vinegar and soda may fix your problem. You may have to dismantle the trap under the sink. If that does not work, you can use an auger on the drain pipe. You may need to call a plumber to fix the problem. Plumbers are not always expensive. It may be a simple job.

What is 3D Ready TV?

4848624094 10cf2aeb43 What is 3D Ready TV?
Image : http://www.flickr.com

3D ready TV refers to those TVs which along with their 2D viewing experience are compatible to offer 3D viewing as well. With the growing consumer demand towards in-home 3D cinematic viewing experience, this is what the greatest TV Makers of the world are focusing. The three dimensional ready TV is the latest offerings catering to the early beginners for in-home 3D viewing and is laying the foundation to develop upon as the 3D content becomes readily available.

In the aftermath of this, the latest trends in case of the 3D Ready TVs can be seen in:

• Active 3D Technology – Philips

• DLP Technology – Mitsubishi, Samsung

• Lenticular Technology – TCL

In case of active three dimensional technology used by Philips for its high range three dimensional ready TV models, these HD TVs come with active 3D eye glasses and a wireless transmitter. These eye glasses have tremendous shutter speed and can alternately open and close the eye lenses of the viewer. The 3D content is developed on a print that is run at a high frames per second mode having the left eye and the right eye images placed alternately on it.

Hence, while viewing, these active 3D glasses with the help of the wireless transmitter synchronizes and opens and shuts the viewer’s eyes corresponding to the image being shown on screen. Philips offer 3D upgrade packs for its three dimensional ready TVs complete with the active eye glasses and the wireless transmitter.

DLP Technology on the other hand stands for Digital Light Processing and is owned by Texas Instruments. This technology is used with small units of standalone projectors and the TVs can have either front projection or rear projection of DLP. DLP can be stated to be the competitor of the LCD and Plasma technologies available in the current HD TV Space.

Lenticular technology refers to the extensive usage of lenticular lenses which in turn creates images having certain depth. That is, these kinds of lenses produce images with an illusion of having a depth which moves and changes when viewed from different angles. Currently selling for $20,000, the 42 inch LCD 3D Ready TV using this technology has been manufactured by the Chinese producer TCL. Known as TD-42F, this model is currently available only in China.

Thus, it can be seen that Samsung, Philips, Toshiba, LG, Mitsubishi, Sony, and all world famous TV making brands are producing 3D Ready TVs for the growing demand of the ultimate three dimensional cinematic viewing experience which all expect to become the next big thing of tomorrow.

How to Cook Corn on the Cob

3076131900 cd79f7649e How to Cook Corn on the Cob
Image : http://www.flickr.com

What’s the best way how to cook corn on the cob? Ask several hard-core corn lovers and you’ll get several different answers. The best way is to cook it on the grill, no steam it, no use a pressure cooker, no boil it! The answer is going to depend on who you ask, the part of the country you’re in will also influence the answer. This time of year sweet corn is at its peak and is available at road-side stands all over the country. Its a staple of weeknight dinners and weekend cookouts. We try to preserve the taste of sweet summer corn by freezing and canning, but one of the things that makes it such a special treat is its limited availability. Fresh corn on the cob can only be had during the late part of summer, just like home-grown tomatoes.

On The Grill

There are a couple of ways to cook corn on the cob on the grill. One is to peel back the husk and season the corn, pull the husk back in place, wrap in tin foil and cook over a low fire. My favorite is to soak the ears of corn in water for about an hour to dampen the husks so they don’t burn and add moisture to the cooking corn and then toss on the grill as is to grill and steam over a medium heat.

On the Stove

When cooking on the stove the ears should be husked and all the silk removed. To boil corn on the cob heat a big pot of water just to the boil, add husked ears and cover. Fresh corn doesn’t need much cooking, check for tenderness after just a few minutes.

Another way to steam cook corn on the cob is to put about 2 inches of water in the bottom of the pot with 2 splashes of milk, heat just to the boil and add the corn. The addition of the milk will cause the pot to boil over if you’re aren’t careful, so cock the lid on the pot so some of the steam can escape. Again, check for tenderness in just a few minutes. I like to run the ears under the cold tap to stop the cooking and to cool the ears enough to eat immediately. No waiting here!

5 Methods For Cake Making Using Electric Mixers

4188531807 178ce4e0fd 5 Methods For Cake Making Using Electric Mixers
Image : http://www.flickr.com

Most home bakers have some sort of electric mixer in their kitchen arsenal. Some are hand held and some are stand mixers. Either way, an electric mixer is essential to making cakes. There are surprisingly many different methods to make a cake and most of them require the use of some sort of electronic mixer.

Here are five ways to make a cake using a food mixer.

One-Step Method

This method requires careful planning to ensure you add the ingredients in the correct order. As with most baking methods, the important part comes when adding the liquid to the dry ingredients because this begins the chemical reaction with the gluten in the flour.

So the one-step method requires you to put the flour and raising agents in the bowl first, then mix to blend. Add the sugar and remaining ingredients and mix to combine.

Melt Method

The melting method does not really require an electric mixer to make, but one can be used on a very low setting to gently combine the ingredients at the end of the process.

The melt method is ideal for syrup, honey or molasses cakes and requires that you melt the fat, usually butter in a pan and then add the syrup and remaining wet ingredients, once the fat has cooled of course. Then once the mixture has cooled you can pour it into your mixing bowl and add the dry ingredients. It’s very important to use the mixer on the lowest setting for this part and to mix until just combined.

Dry and Wet Method

The dry and wet method works once again in a similar way to the one step method. It requires you put all the dry ingredients into the bowl and mix to blend. In a separate bowl you then put all the wet ingredients in and mix. Pour the mixed wet ingredients into the dry and mix.

A small point to consider with this method is that when you are using white sugars, you can count it as a dry ingredient, but if you are using muscovado or brown sugar, you need to count it with your wet ingredients.

Bread Method

An electric mixer can also be used to make dough if you install the kneading hooks. Depending on whether you are using fresh or dried yeast, make your preparations required for the yeast component and then add to the mixing bowl. Add the flour and use the dough hooks to slowly knead the ingredients into a soft and elastic ball of dough.

Creaming Method

The creaming method is by far the most common method used when baking cakes and biscuits. It’s when the fat, usually butter, at room temperature is mixed at very high speeds with the sugar. This mixture must be beaten until it becomes pale and creamy. Then it is usual for the eggs to be added and blended well to the butter and sugar mixture followed by the rest of the ingredients according to the recipe. Having an electric mixer for this method is essential.

Each of these methods yields a different result for the desired effect of the cake, bread or biscuit. Some result in a crumbly, sandy texture, some will result in a light and spongy cake or some might be chewy and soft. Whatever you are making, an electronic mixer is one of the must have items in any home cook’s collection of small kitchen appliances.

21koC4 JJiL LG 55LHX 55 Inch LCD HDTV, Gloss Black
The number one reason why I got this unit was for the size and the wireless HD capabilities.
I hang this unit over the fireplace with Sanus VMPL50B wallmount.
The TV is about 60lbs, so you will need a friend to help you hang it up on the wall.
The screws for wall mounting was already attach to the TV which was great.
Once I have on the wall and after I plug in the power behind the TV, NO MORE other wires are needed. I put the wireless media box which came with the set about 10 feet away with no direct line of sight and was able to show HD tv with great clarity WIRELESSly… this is a great feature.

I have wireless phone, internet and head sets which did not cause any interference with this TV.

The 55LHX’s lg logo on the TV is where the TV’s receiver is, so if you stand right in front, you will see some static or no picture as you are no blocking the signal. But, I will know to avoid to stand right in front of the TV :)

The viewing angle is good, I tilt it downwards about 12 degrees for less glare. The TV screen do not reflect much, but the black frame does.

Just a note, with the 240HZ True motion on, sports looks very life like; but on movies it looks 3D ish, so shut I had to shut it off. Now I know why a 240Hz tv can possibly view 3d movies.

I have a Pioneer plasma which still looks way better than this TV, but this TV is as good if not better than my sharp Aquos. So, maybe its a settings thing.

There are lots of settings, but I have yet to find the best one, so please leave me a comment if you know what the best settings are….

Are You Buying the Right Microwave?

4619332065 b2ebda6f6f Are You Buying the Right Microwave?
Image : http://www.flickr.com

If you want to have increased flexibility and convenience in the kitchen you may be considering purchasing a microwave oven. When contemplating the purchase of a new microwave, first find out what’s available, and then consider this information in light of your own needs.

The major features to look at when assessing microwaves include:

Type – Conventional or convection microwave, countertop model or built in.
Size – The compact size ranges from 0.5 to 0.8 cubic feet, the mid-size ranges from 0.9 to 1.3 cubic feet, the family size from 1.4 to 1.6 cubic feet, and the full size ranges from 1.8 to 2.0 cubic feet.
Power – Smaller models offer 400 to 500 watts; compact microwaves between 500 and 800 watts; mid size microwave between 800 and 1000 watts; largest sizes offer more than 1000 watts of power.
Construction - Steel, stainless steel, plastic, glass.

Capacity and speed in cooking are major considerations in purchasing a microwave oven, as well as how this appliance fits with your kitchen layout and its compatibility with your lifestyle. Some households use microwaves to heat entrees, beverages, and side dishes, while others rely on the microwave to cook entire meals for the family and guests.

If your home doesn’t have a traditional oven, a convection microwave can be a practical choice. While a conventional microwave only uses radiation to heat water molecules in food, a convection microwave uses high intensity halogen lights and the circulation of heated air to heat the food, achieving the same browning results typically expected of a conventional oven.

Perhaps your kitchen is on the small side and you’re considering a built-in model. In this case the over-the-range convection microwave is a good choice, being space-efficient yet still maintaining a large user interface to assist cooking controllability. These models are generally more powerful than their countertop counterparts, and have great features such as built-in fans, but keep in mind they are more expensive and usually require professional installation.

To avoid the risk of over cooking you can look for a ’sensor cooking’ feature. This convenient feature ensures the food cooks reliably to the desired degree on the first try. Sensor cooking works on the basis of humidity within the oven, and cooks the food by measuring the amount of moisture the food releases. It starts cooking with one touch. You just need to add the food, set the sensor-cooking feature, and start. It automatically determines the required cooking time and power level you need.

Ventilation fans are rated in CFM (cubic feet per minute). Higher CFMs draw out more grease and steam and 180 CFM is the minimum. Vented models need to be connected with ductwork and non-vented or internally ventilated models need a charcoal filter.

Tip: Appearances can be deceiving; always check the internal capacity of a microwave.
